Boyne Valley (Geology)
With George Sevastopulo

Meet 10.30am at Newgrange Visitor Centre car park. There is now a motorway from the border, making the journey much easier and quicker. Take the first exit after the Boyne Cable Bridge. This is sign-posted for Donore and Bru na Boinne (you will need €1.40 for the toll). Go through the village of Donore; the Visitor Centre is 2km beyond the village on the right hand side.

This excursion will be a follow up to the very interesting talk about the geology of some ancient monuments that George Sevastopulo gave to the Field Club in February 2008. We will start with a visit to Knowth, which probably means taking the tour (for which there will be a charge). We will also visit Termonfeckin and Monasterboice to see the High Crosses and Clogher Head, the putative source of the greywacke used in the megalithic passage graves. We will end up at Nobber, Co.Meath, from where people will be able to make their way back to the motorway.

Bring a picnic lunch and euros.
