All species present on the checklists available on this web site can be found using the search options listed on the right. The search will include species synonyms.
If you would like to find more information about a particular species, you can use this website to search for the scientific name or common name, by selecting one of the options. You can search for a species or genus using the "Search Latin Name". If you would like to find out about a number of species within a Family, you can use the "Search Family Name" links. If searching for a species using the common name, via the "Search Common Name" link, you must be as specific as possible, as searching using a general common name will return a large number of results.
The "Search Latin Name" is the preferred option and will allow you to find the species you are interested in more readily as the species you are searching for may have changed taxonomically and therefore may have a different name. Alternatively, you can look for a species via the "Full Taxonomic Checklist" by scrolling down the screen or using the "Find" option on your toolbar.
Using the "Search Literature" option allows you to search for a list of species that have appeared in the literature searched for. This search facility enables you to search via the author name or by year of publication. In addition, you can search for species by location using the "Search Location" option. By selecting the Irish location (ie Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland) you are interested in, you can view a list of species that are present in these areas. Using the "Search Irish Status" option allows you to search for a list of species whose status of name is either accepted, deleted or unconfirmed on the Irish Checklists.
